Why Missing Your Period Isn’t a Sign of “Winning”

Listen.
You might be thinking that not getting your period is awesome and convenient. But allow me to explain why that’s actually an important red flag for your health.

Your period is SO much more than bleeding — it’s considered your fifth vital sign in many holistic systems of medicine, including Ayurveda.

The quality, quantity and timing of your menstrual cycle offer insight into:

  • Nutritional status

  • Bone and muscle health

  • Inflammation

  • Fertility

  • Adrenal balance

  • And so much more.

Your blood nourishes every tissue and organ in the body. When your period disappears or becomes extremely light, it's often a sign that the rest of your body is running on empty — not getting the resources it needs to thrive.

There are many possible causes behind this kind of deficiency, and the good news is:
You can restore balance with the right kind of support.

As an Ayurveda Practitioner who works closely with female athletes and active women, I’ve been through this personally — and I help others heal it, too.

If you’re feeling:

  • Anxious or fatigued

  • Burned out or overtrained

  • Overwhelmed by your schedule

  • Or just not quite yourself

-then a missing or light period might be your body asking for help.

You can read more about the importance of the menstrual health here.

P.S. Missing or light periods aren’t the only concern — some women experience excessive menstrual bleeding, which comes with its own health implications. We’ll save that conversation for another blog post!
